The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has submitted its audited financial report for the 2024 calendar year (January 1 to December 31) to the Election Commission (EC).
On Sunday, a BNP delegation led by the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi handed over the income and expenditure statement to EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed at the commission’s headquarters in Agargaon.
According to the report, BNP`s income in 2024 stood at Tk 15,65,94,842, while its expenditure amounted to Tk 4,80,04,820 — leaving the party with a surplus of Tk 10,85,90,019.
In comparison, BNP reported an income of Tk 1,10,80,151 in 2023 and expenditures of Tk 3,65,23,970. In 2022, the party’s income was Tk 5,92,04,632 and its expenditure was Tk 3,88,33,803.
Speaking to reporters after submitting the report, Rizvi criticized the former Election Commission, accusing it of operating as an extension of the executive branch and enabling electoral malpractice.
However, he expressed hope that the current EC would ensure a free, fair, and inclusive election.
He also called on the interim government to ensure that no anti-democratic force disrupts the upcoming elections and to guarantee a safe environment where voters can cast their ballots without obstruction.
As per the Representation of the People Order (RPO), all registered political parties are required to submit their audited financial statements for the previous calendar year by July each year.
This year, the EC issued letters to 50 registered parties, excluding the suspended ruling Awami League, instructing them to submit their financial reports for 2024 by July 31.
The RPO mandates that all submissions must be audited by a recognized chartered accounting firm.
Failure to submit financial statements for three consecutive years can result in the cancellation of a party’s registration.
